Team Wales Squad Announced for Commonwealth Games 2018
Team Wales has selected its elite playing squad to compete at the Commonwealth Games 2018,
which will be staged in the Gold Coast, Australia, next April.
Team Wales will consist of the country’s number one players Joel Makin and Tesni Evans, as
well as Peter Creed and Deon Saffery. The quartet will contest for medals in mens’, womens’
and mixed playing categories – with the latter pairing made up of Creed and Evans.
Mike Workman, Director of Coaching and Development, Squash Wales said:
“The players selected have been together since the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Australia, and have developed a close team bond that has delivered
great success thus far. We will continue to build on this and cement the pairings in the run-up to
Gold Coast 2018.”
Team Wales will be looking to continue their excellent recent displays in doubles tournaments,
following a superb showing at the World Doubles Championships in Manchester in August –
where the squad achieved a bronze medal and two sixth-place finishes against the very best
pairs in the global game.
“With a little over 2 months to go, it is vital that all competing players get the best preparation
possible, with plenty of time to plan together in advance, as well as the necessary court time to
focus on their specific disciplines and training, to give them the best possible opportunity to
deliver the exceptional performances they are capable of,” Workman added.
